An insider’s guide to Keene
There’s no better time than autumn to head west to the Connecticut River Valley for a visit to Keene, or, as we like to think of it, Concord’s cool little sister. Each fall, tens of thousands of visitors flock to the college town for its annual pumpkin festival, but Keene has a lot more to see than gourds. Its picturesque Main Street, the widest in America, has an unpretentious, welcoming feel, complete with a blend of quality...

Go see the foliage from a boat!
Autumn colors look twice as nice when they’re reflected in New Hampshire’s lakes, rivers and harbors, so take some time this fall to check out a local boat tour. Below, you’ll find a list of cruise companies that operate well into October. Before you head to the docks, though, there are a few things to keep in mind. First, be sure to call ahead. The weather is fickle this time of year, and a brisk autumn breeze may force a change in...
Brews cruise
Something’s in the air these days. Autumn is upon us. The blaze of new colors appearing on the trees only to gray and brittle, crackling underfoot as they begin their inevitable return to the earth from whence they came. Eventually, fall gives way to the undertaker’s spade of winter, burying all that surrounds under frigid, white, unforgiving snow. Of course, some of us just appreciate fall for the beer. Here’s a sample of just a few...

Fanjoy spoke to Salvatore Marcellino, 41, of Concord and asked what happened. Marcellino told Fanjoy that he and his girlfriend were at the Hess gas station on Main Street when...
Like cemeteries? Read on
Spend a lot of time wandering around cemeteries? Hey, we don’t judge you. David Watters hangs out in graveyards, too, and we think he’s pretty cool. We recently attended Watters’s talk “New Hampshire Gravestones” at the Pierce Manse. The free event, sponsored by the New Hampshire Humanities Council, was part of The Brigade Lecture series (a year-long series focused on New Hampshire history and culture). Equipped with multiple slides...
