The Coe-Brown Northwood Academy Theatre Company is proud to present the riveting
courtroom drama, Twelve Angry Jurors, based on the Emmy Award-winning television movie by Reginald Rose. Adapted by Sherman L. Sergel for the stage and produced by special arrangement with The Dramatic Publishing Company of Woodstock, Illinois.

Prepare for a gripping theatrical experience as Coe-Brown Theatre brings life to their production of Twelve Angry Jurors. Directed by Coe-Brown faculty member Jennie Moynihan, the show will run from Friday, October 24 to Saturday, October 25 in the Gerrish Gym at Coe-Brown Northwood Academy. This production promises to captivate audiences with its intense and timeless exploration of justice, prejudice, and humanity.

Based on the Emmy-winning 1954 teleplay, Twelve Angry Jurors plunges the audience into the hot, claustrophobic confines of a jury room on a sweltering summer day. A 19-year-old man stands accused of the murder of his father, and the evidence appears to be overwhelming. With a seemingly open-and-shut case, the twelve jurors — a diverse and opinionated cross-section of society — are prepared to deliver a quick guilty verdict. But when one lone voice casts a vote in favor of reasonable doubt, the deliberations devolve into a heated, electrifying struggle that reveals each juror’s biases, fears, and personal history.

“This is not just a play about a court case; it’s a deep dive into what it means to seek the truth in the face of human prejudice,” says Director Jennie Moynihan. “The intimate setting of the jury room puts the audience in the heart of the action, making them feel like a thirteenth juror. The play’s central themes of social responsibility and the importance of due process are more relevant than ever in today’s world.”

The cast of 13 actors portrays the vivid personalities that clash within the jury room, from the fiery and opinionated Juror #3 to the methodical and observant Juror #8, who holds the fate of the accused in their hands. As the characters peel back the layers of the case, they also peel back the masks they wear in their own lives, forcing them to confront their own assumptions and blind spots.

The upcoming production of Twelve Angry Jurors showcases not only the talent on stage but also the impressive technical and creative skills of the students behind the scenes. Every crucial element of the show — from the stark, tension-building sound and lighting design to the period-specific costume design and the prop making — is entirely the responsibility of the student technical crew. This production provides a unique, hands-on learning experience where student vision transforms the stage. Leading the entire operation is Stage Manager Grace Marston, ensuring a seamless and professional performance.
