Boston’s 10-piece groove machine, The Macrotones, blend funk, soul, and global rhythms into what they call “imperial funk” and “astrobeat.” With powerful horns, gritty vocals, and
dancefloor-filling energy, they’ve shared the stage with Lee Fields, Durand Jones, and more.
They recently headlined at Jimmy’s, Portsmouth’s premier jazz Club. Their latest EP Bloody
Hands showcases their signature edge and infectious sound. Be sure to mark your calendars
for their Henniker debut on Tuesday, August 26 at the Angela Robinson Bandstand.
A new era for the band began in 2019 when friend and occasional guest vocalist Phil Desisto joined full-time. Phil’s commanding and gritty vocals, drawing comparisons to Bobby Womack, saw the band embrace more classic soul sounds from the ’60s and ’70s, while retaining their edgy funk.
Recording and performing have been their hallmarks since the inception of the band. While the pandemic made any live celebrations of their 2020 studio work Bloody Hands nearly impossible, the band instead performed and filmed a 45-minute set in the woods of New Hampshire, debuting new originals and a couple covers. The band is back to steady gigging and has finally completed their first vocal full length, From the Void, out on Music ADD in 2024.
The Henniker Summer Music Series is sponsored by the town of Henniker, along with tonight’s sponsor, 89 Donuts, which is proud to be a part of the community in Henniker since 2008 and takes pride in providing the best in coffees, espressos, baked goods and sandwiches, seven days a week.
We will be providing shuttle service to/from the concert for Henniker residents. The shuttles will stop at the Knolls and Rush Square to accommodate non-driving residents and in front of the Grange for people who park their cars in the Henniker Community School parking lot. This is to help alleviate some of the parking problems these higher attended shows create and to make it possible for more non-driving residents to attend the concerts. We have flyers at our table showing the shuttle routes and approximate times of pick up. We are indebted to White Birch for letting us use their buses to provide this service and to the Angela Robinson Music Fund and NH Charitable Foundation for the grant making this project possible.
All concerts are free (although donations are welcome), begin at 6 p.m. and take place at the Angela Robinson Bandstand at Community Park on Main Street. If there is inclement weather, concerts will move indoors to the adjacent Community Center. Bring a chair, spread a blanket, visit a local restaurant, have a picnic supper on the lawn or sample some of the fare provided by this week’s Food Vendor Country Spirit Restaurant. Join your neighbors and friends in this community-building event at our bandstand. The complete summer schedule and weekly weather updates are available on the Town of Henniker website: www.henniker.org and on our Facebook page: https://facebook.com/HennikerConcert.
