The Greater Concord Chamber of Commerce’s Concord Young Professionals Network introduces you to our “Young Professional of the Month,” Jonathan Stallsmith. Each month, the CYPN Steering Committee recommends a young professional in the community it thinks Concord Insider readers would enjoy getting to know better.

How old are you? 31.

Where do you live? Laconia.

Where do you currently work? I’m building my own business through a general agency called Primerica Financial Services, where we educate people on the concepts of making and saving money. I also maintain a full-time job at New Hampshire Motor Speedway as the digital media manager.

What’s your favorite part of your work day? With what I do at Primerica, I’m constantly in a position to network and make new friends. Being put in a position where I can get to meet new people and learn their story, that’s become my favorite part of my work.

Where did you go to school? I grew up in Hanover and went to high school there. After graduation, I went out west to attend the University of Southern California. “Fight On!”

What do you like to do for fun? Anything outdoors. Skiing is my favorite. If you live here and hate winter, it’s probably because you don’t ski or ride enough. In the summer, I hike, try to figure out golf, and run the Covered Bridges Half Marathon in Woodstock, Vt.

Favorite places to be? In the winter, the Castlerock Double at Sugarbush Resort in Vermont or The Dunes Course at Diamante in Cabo San Lucas. In the summer, Martha’s Vineyard. I lived there one summer, and if I could, I’d do that every summer.

Last book you’ve read? Go Giver by Bob Burg and John David Mann.

How did you find out about CYPN and how has it benefited your business or you personally? CPYN has been a huge benefit to me. My co-worker, Kristyn Galante, was on the Steering Committee and dragged me to an event in March 2016, using craft beer as a selling point. I met Jim Figueira there and he wrote down a compound interest concept, The Rule of 72, on a napkin. We became fast friends, and I joined him in Primerica the next month. I believe this to be my chance to change the world around me by teaching the concepts of financial literacy. If I’d never been dragged to that CYPN event, I never would have met Jim, and I might never have found my calling in life.

What organizations are you involved with? I was recently appointed to the CYPN Steering Committee, which I enjoy because it gives me the opportunity to give back to something that has helped shape my career path. I also play hockey in Laconia and (occasionally) soccer in Bow.

Who is your greatest role model? John Wooden, the late, great college basketball coach. He was one of the greatest coaches in history, not because of his on-court success (of which he had a lot), but because of how he approached life and how he used his platform to shape boys into men. I had the opportunity to meet Coach Wooden when he was 96, and it’s a memory I’ll always cherish.

What’s your favorite restaurant in Concord? The Common Man.

What’s your favorite place to go in Concord? Arnie’s . . . obviously.

Favorite movie of all time? The Shawshank Redemption.

What is one of your life goals? I love to travel, so skiing in Banff, eating sushi in Japan and cheering on Manchester City in England.

What has been your favorite CYPN event so far? My first one at Area 23 in March 2016 when I met Jim Figueira. I didn’t know it, but the course of my life was forever altered that day.

If you could visit any country, where would you go? Australia.

Where is the best place you’ve visited? Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

Who would you really like to meet? Barack Obama. I admire his ability to stick to a strong moral compass in a time of political and racial turmoil. In a lot of ways, his demeanor and personality are attributes I look up to and try to emulate in my own life, so I think I could learn a lot from him over a burger and a beer.

Tell us an interesting fact about yourself! Fun fact: I’ve played on an organized hockey team every year of my life since the year before I started kindergarten.
