It isn’t too often that you get the chance to get a haircut and meet (and possibly adopt) some pets while you’re at it. That’s why you really can’t afford to miss the second annual Adoption Day Block Party this Sunday put on by Lucky’s Barbershop.

Last year’s inaugural event was so popular that Lucky’s owner Josh Craggy decided to bring it back for another year.

“We’re all gigantic animal lovers here and a lot of us have rescues,” Craggy said. “So last year was the first year we got the idea that we want to give back to the community and give to the SPCA. We weren’t aware of how much goes into running an operation like that. It’s unbelievable – the grounds, the crew, the facility.”

After going into the facility for the first time last year, Craggy said he felt like he needed to do something to help the Pope Memorial SPCA, so he put on a party at his shop. There were kids, there were adults, there were pups galore – and everybody had a great time.

This year, the hope is to go bigger and better. The upcoming event will actually be a whole block party – Craggy contacted the city and worked out all the details to be able to close the portion of North State Street in front of the barbershop, that way kids, parents and pets can cruise around the whole neighborhood in a leisurely fashion without having to dodge oncoming traffic.

“We had a food truck, a puppy kissing booth, some local trainers came through, customers brought their dogs. It went above and beyond what we expected and anticipated,” Craggy said.

This year will feature all the same activities, plus music, a raffle, pictures and goodie bags, as well as the opportunity to meet with SPCA staff and start the process of adopting a pet, if you so choose. All proceeds will go to the SPCA.

And you can still get a haircut, too.

The party will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday and is open to anyone. Call Lucky’s at 715-5470 for more.
