If you like art, then you’ll want to see these shows

As you well know, we sure do love art here at the Insider.

We may not be able to create it or actually know a whole lot about it, but that doesn’t mean we can’t appreciate fine works when we see them.

And if you’re like us, there’s a couple receptions this week to celebrate local shows that you won’t want to miss.

Thanks to Mother Nature and some late winter snow, the public get-together for McGowan Fine Art’s most recent show was changed from an opening reception to a closing party.

So on Friday, go help McGowan celebrate two decades of owner Sarah Chaffee’s vision at the gallery from 5 to 7 p.m.

There will be snacks and some great art to check out before the show is over.

On Saturday, there will be a reception for the annual NHTI Visual Arts program’s Senior Capstone and Student Exhibition from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Smokestack Center, Unit M, 254 N. State St.

The exhibit features the work of 12 students, including photography, watercolor paintings, drawings, handmade fans and ceramics.

Beginning May 1, visitors to NHTI’s library will be able to view the work during library hours. The exhibit will be on display through May 21.

For info about the opening reception, call 224-1017. For library info and hours, call 230-4028.

And while it’s not till next week, we couldn’t help but get excited about the fact that Mill Brook Gallery is opening for the year with its New Painting & Indoor Sculpture Exhibit on May 4. The same day of the opening, there will be an opening reception from 5 to 7 p.m. The show will be on display through Aug. 27.
