The Concord Cold Weather Shelter will be run out of the St. Peter’s Activity Center at 135 N. State St. again this year, and the Friends Program will be managing the day-to-day operations.

There is no firm open date, but it looks like no earlier than Jan. 4.

And the shelter is in need of volunteers. Without enough volunteers, the shelter will not open.

You can sign up for recurring shifts or simply pick and choose the shifts that fit your availability. Shifts are for overnight (6:45 p.m. to 7 a.m.), evening check-in (6:45 to 9:30 p.m.) and morning check-out (6 to 7:30 a.m.) Once you are signed up, the system will send email reminders for your upcoming shifts. In addition to the core shifts, on call volunteers to assist when there are coverage gaps or late volunteer cancellations are needed.

The volunteer coordinator this year is Terry Blake. Arolyn Chappell, Friends Emergency Housing Program Director, will again serve as the shelter manager.
