Tasty Brews: Kirin Ichiban at Beijing & Tokyo

We seem to always be trying beers made right here in the Granite State, over the border in Vermont or farther afield locations like Colorado. These are all fine and good, but we were in the mood for something different last week and decided to try something from the east – the far east.

We ended up at Beijing & Tokyo (not the two giant cities on the other side of the world, but the restaurant on South Main Street), as we figured a place with that name ought to have some eastern offerings.

After browsing the menu for a minute, we decided on Kirin Ichiban (thanks to a suggestion from our friendly server) – a beer we’d never heard of.

It comes in a glass bottle with a white label featuring a dragon on it. Just as we’d never heard of it, we’d never seen it before, either.

The taste was very mild, light and mellow – this was a highly drinkable beer with virtually no aftertaste at all.

The lightness and smoothness was similar to a lot of American lights – Bud Light, Coors Light, PBR, etc. One thing I noticed – and this may have been nothing more than the placebo effect – was that it faintly tasted like sake, the rice wine typically served hot.

All in all, this 5-percenter is a perfect all-day drinker.
