Have you been looking to be more healthy these days? Do you need a little motivation to get you going?

Well, look no further than the city of Concord’s wellness fair next Tuesday, Nov. 29, at the Holiday Inn.

More than 30 vendors will overtake the grand ballroom, and none of them will be trying to sell you anything since it’s a city sanctioned event. It’s merely a way to get information about some great resources in your neck of the woods.

“Some of the vendors that are going to be there, people might now know they even exist,” said Robin Wirbal, human resources benefits administrator and wellness coordinator for Concord.

The fair began a number of years ago as a city employee only event. But after the first two, the decision was made to open it up to anyone who wants to attend – and it’s all for free.

“It was initially intended to help employees know about local area wellness,” Wirbal said. “But as it grew, we asked ‘why are we just doing it for employees?’ And ultimately a whole community being healthy is better for everybody.”

Held every other year, the fair brings in vendors from all sorts of fields: exercise, food, therapy, health, entertainment and wellness. If it has to do with overall wellness, odds are you’ll find something at the fair that deals with it.

“We want it to be beneficial for not only the people who attend, but the vendors who come and spend their day there,” Wirbal said.

Vendor booths will have information about who they are, what kind of services they offer and how to find (and use) them.

There will be free screening opportunities, like spinal analysis and blood pressure, and lots of great prizes to win through various vendor raffles.

And if you want to build up a little sweat while you’re there – assuming you don’t have to rush back to work – the two adjacent conference rooms will be home to short classes for you to try out. We’re talking martial arts, yoga, boxing and much more. Classes range from 20 to 50 minutes and are completely free.

“We have roughly 12 different instructors teaching classes,” Wirbal said. “It’s kind of a try it before you buy it kind of thing.”

You don’t have to sign up ahead of time or stay the entire four hours, just show up when you want and leave when you need to.

The fair runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is open to all.
