For the Ice Cream Issue, it didn’t seem right not to do a feature that involved us eating ice cream. We felt we’d be doing all of you a disservice if we didn’t go out and try something the city had to offer.

Since we kind of like to go big or go home over here, we decided to head over to Arnie’s Place to tackle the T-shirt Sundae, the legendary eight-scoop behemoth that gets you a free T-shirt if you finish it all.

For me, I took this as a personal challenge. If you recall, we tried the Taco Gigante Challenge at Margarita’s last year – in which Tim and I each tried to finish a 2-pound taco in under an hour – and I didn’t exactly live up to my own expectations.

Since I still haven’t been able to live that down at the office, I figured this would be a chance for redemption. A real opportunity to prove my worth and justify my paycheck.

I was wrong.

After downing about five scoops’ worth, there was no more fight left in me. Ice cream is a lot heavier than you think, especially when it’s covered in six toppings.

But just because it’s big doesn’t mean it’s not good – far from it. One of the great regrets in my life is not being able to finish this, because it was something else.

Among the eight different flavors, the apple crisp was the star, tasting just like the baked treat with gooey apple pieces and all.

The best topping was the hard chocolate shell covering the coconut roasted almond scoop.

The bottom line is, in the world of ice cream-eating challenges, even if you lose, you win.
