Ham and bean supper Saturday

Jump into spring with a classic New England ham and bean supper at the East Congregational Church, 51 Mountain Road, on Saturday, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. The menu includes two kinds of made-from-scratch beans, baked ham, homemade brown bread and rolls, coleslaw, assorted casseroles and a scrumptious dessert buffet.

Adults are $8, children 6 to 12 are $5, and ages 5 and under are free. Takeout is available, and tickets will be available for an expertly handcrafted full/queen size quilt.

The Concord Chamber of Commerce is hosting the 25th annual Business Showcase on Tuesday, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m., at the Grappone Conference Center, 70 Constitution Ave. Cost is $7 per person.

On April 14, join your fellow Concord business and community leaders for an annual breakfast forum on the “State of the City.”

The event will be held from 7:30 to 9 a.m. at the Holiday Inn, 172 N. Main St. Find out what’s on the horizon for the city of Concord, the challenges of this year’s budget, how Concord compares with similar cities in New Hampshire and what capital improvements we can expect to see, including an update on the “Complete Streets.”

The cost is $20 for chamber members and $30 for nonmembers, and includes breakfast.

Concord Regional VNA is offering a free presentation of “Aging in Place” on April 14 at 10 a.m. at the Heights Community Center, 14 Canterbury Road.

Navy band to play Audi Saturday

Navy Band Northeast’s Popular Music Group, Rhode Island Sound, will be performing at the Concord City Auditorium on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

Navy Band Northeast performs a wide variety of musical styles including traditional band literature, popular standards and patriotic favorites. Navy Band Northeast ensembles perform over 300 engagements annually.

Concord Parks & Recreation summer camp registration is now open, offering three traditional day camps.

There’s Kids Camp (Grades 1st & 2nd) for $136 a week, Rec Camp (Grades 3rd-5th) for $141 a week and Adventure Camp (Grades 6th-8th) for $164 a week.

Camps begin June 20, and run for eight weeks through the week of Aug. 8 -12.

Camp Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and early drop-off (7:30 a.m.) and/or late pick-up (by 5:30 p.m.) are included with no extra charge. Free breakfast and lunch is also available to all campers.

Starting Wednesday, the first 75 kids to register for kids, rec or teen camp will receive a Concord Parks & Recreation backpack.

Documentary at NHTI Wednesday

On Wednesday at 2:30 pm in Sweeney Auditorium, NHTI will show the HBO documentary Crisis Hotline: Veterans Press 1 about the volunteers who run a suicide hotline for veterans.

This timely film spotlights the traumas endured by America’s veterans as seen through the work of the hotline’s trained responders, who provide immediate intervention and support in hopes of saving the lives of service members.Staff from the VA will be in attendance for a question and answer session following the film.

Bach’s Lunch to be held Thursday

The rich history, traditions and sound of Nepalese, Bhutanese and Indian music will be featured in the next two installments of the Concord Community Music School’s free Bach’s Lunch program.

On Thursday, Shyam Nepali, Sagar Khatiwada and Harimaya Adhikari will give a lecture titled “Faith and Folk Traditions: Music of South Asia,” at the music school.

On April 14, the three will return to the music school stage, as the Himalaya Heritage Musical Group, to perform a concert titled “Folk, Sacred, and Classical Music of Nepal, Bhutan and India.” Bach’s Lunch programs are free and open to the public, and take place from 12:10 to 12:50 p.m. on the first and second Thursdays of each month in the music school’s Recital Hall, 23 Wall St.

In their lecture, Nepali, Khatiwada and Adhikari will describe the history and traditions of music from Nepal and other South Asian countries, with musical examples from traditional instruments.

Concord fire chief to speak to PVA

The Penacook Village Association will host a member meeting on Saturday at 9 a.m. at Rolfe House, Penacook Street. Concord Fire Chief Daniel Andrus will talk about the new traffic signal at the Manor Fire Station, the recent regional emergency communication test (NH Alerts), Concord’s emergency medical care and the Penacook Rescue Squad. Brick sales and spring construction plans for the Poulin Park Gazebo will also be finalized. Refreshments will be served.

Quilters guildto meet Friday

The Capital Quilters Guild will meet at Havenwood, 33 Christian Ave., on Friday, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. All quilters and friends are welcome to attend. Guild member Sue Proia will give a lecture and demonstration of Redwork. Redwork involves incorporating hand embroidery, usually in red thread, into the pattern of the quilt resulting in a unique style.
