Itโs time. We know youโve been spending hours in front of the mirror reciting that poem you wrote oh so many months ago and now youโve got to share it with the world. And it just so happens, the Poetry Society of N.H. is hosting its monthly get-together at Gibsonโs Bookstore tonight at 7 p.m. The evening starts with a reading from Midge Goldberg, followed by an open mic session. Newcomers are encouraged โ and thatโs you.
As you could probably tell from the cover, Easter is coming fast. And youโve got to be prepared, so why not learn a new way to spice up your egg decorating game. There will be an ancient Ukranian egg decorating method using dyes and waxes taught at Concord High at 6 p.m.
Friday
Every year, the Junior Service League of Concord puts on a spring show to raise money that will assist children and families in need. And this yearโs production of Snow Queen will happen this weekend at St. Paulโs School. There will be a performance at 7 p.m. in Memorial Hall and another one Saturday at 1 p.m. Tickets are a suggested $5 donation and available at the door. Check out jslconcord.org for more info.
Like we said before, Easter is right around the corner and what better way to get in the holiday spirit than by immersing yourself in all things Easter? ConcordTV is hosting the inaugural Easter Eggstravaganza at the Bektash Shrine Center all weekend, beginning today at 3 p.m. There will be lots of Easter baskets to win, photo opps with the Easter Bunny and live entertainment. Check out page 16 for more on the specifics for each day.
Saturday
The Concord Community Music School will host a day full of musical festivities during its annual Performathon & Community Open House today, from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be an open jam, an instrument โpetting zoo,โ surprise pop-up performances and plenty of folk, Broadway, jazz and classical music, performed by students raising money for the Financial Aid Fund. If you like music, this is a must see event.
If you like fun, soup or both, youโve got to check out the annual Souperfest festivities today, starting at 2 p.m. at Rundlett Middle School. FunFest runs from 2 to 5 p.m., while the soups on from 4 to 7 p.m. Thereโs more info on the day if you turn to page 4 (thatโs the next page).
Maple syrup producers will open their doors this weekend for Maple Weekend, including Mapletree Farm in Concord and Treatโs Sugarhouse in Bow. You can learn all about how sap is turned into syrup, taste samples and buy some to take home for your next batch of fluffy pancakes. Thereโs more info on page 10 and at nhmapleproducers.com.
The N.H. Audubon wants to help you celebrate what comes up next in the rotation of our four seasons with Spring on the Wing at the McLane Center. Itโs a day of family-friendly fun with hands-on activities, scavenger hunts, live bird presentations, a performance of โThe Early Birdsโ skit and much more. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and cost is $7 for individuals ($5 for members) and $18 for families ($12 for members).
Monday
The 2016 New Hampshire Poetry Out Loud Recitation State Finals will take place at the State Houseโs Representatives Hall on Monday at 6 p.m. Twelve finalists from the stateโs four semi-final competitions will recite poems for a chance to be called state champion. Wouldnโt you like to be called a champion, too?
