We asked for gingerbread destruction ideas, and boy did we get ’em

Yup, that’s a mini cannon.
Yup, that’s a mini cannon.

We weren’t sure exactly what we were getting ourselves into when we asked you, our beloved readers, for ideas on how we could destroy our three-month-old gingerbread house (not suggested: a gentle breeze, which would probably do the trick on its brittle foundation at this point).

Turns out what we’re into is a world of primitive and modern weapons of destruction.

We received one suggestion that we use a trebuchet, which is a medieval device featuring a swinging weight (the suggestion was to find a mini one to match the mini house).

The leader in the clubhouse, though, may have come from our own, um, clubhouse, because it doesn’t need to be shrunken to a miniature state – it already has been.

Roger Brooks from the commercial printing department at the Monitor suggested the mini cannon you see to the right, which he possesses. Apparently it produces a pretty impressive cloud of smoke, along with a tiny projectile that would no doubt crumble our humble little sweet abode.

Those weren’t the only suggestions, though: From one of our younger readers, 10-year-old Dylan Jones, we received the following: “I think that you should make a giant gingerbread man [costume], then have people use it as a puppet to smash the gingerbread house. The giant gingerbread man should have metal feet so it can, like, crush the gingerbread house.”

That sounds pretty awesome, Dylan. If only we had a giant gingerbread costume handy (::hides giant gingerbread costume worn on casual Friday last week::).

We’re not willing to call it just yet, so keep the suggestions coming if you’ve got them. Send them to news@theconcordinsider.com. Or, if you’d like, you can vote for one of the suggestions that have already been made. We’re not going to lie, we kinda want to shoot that little cannon off, so even if something else wins this contest, we’re probably going to find a way to make that happen anyway.
