City Briefly

Each week, City Manager Tom Aspell slaps some lipstick and rouge on his city memo and nominates it to be a hunkette. We pass, but we still present it here!

We didn’t leave yet

See what we did there?

The recent winter weather conditions temporarily suspended fall leaf collection efforts and have kept Highway and Utilities crews busy with snow and storm debris removal for the last two weeks, Aspell writes. As the weather forecast calls for milder conditions, crews hope to resume fall leaf collection efforts this week. So get out there and shovel, or, um, rake those leaves!

Beginning on Dec. 15, crews will resume collection in the areas of the city that have not yet been collected. Two particular areas have a lot of on-street parking that could inhibit collection efforts. The first area is bounded by Pleasant Street, South Spring Street, West Street and South State Street. The second area is bounded by Washington Street, Auburn Street, Penacook Street and North State Street. We ask residents in these areas to avoid on-street parking this week. We’d especially advise against parking in a leaf pile, for fear your car may get sucked up, too.

As long as the weather conditions continue to remain mild, crews will continue to pick up leaves. And as long as we’re calling these temperatures mild, we’re moving to California.

For more information about leaf collection, please visit concordnh.gov/leafcollection or follow Concord General Services on Twitter for status updates.

Are we still talking fall?

Nope, it’s winter now

With the arrival of winter weather, it may be necessary for the city to issue overnight parking bans in order to perform snow removal operations, Aspell writes. Sort of depends on Mother Nature’s snow delivery operations.

Residents are encouraged to sign up for Emergency Alerts for winter storm event parking bans and winter maintenance parking bans by using the “NOTIFY ME” button or the “Concord Alerts” button on the home page of the city website (concordnh.gov). By signing up for these alerts, you will be notified when the city has declared a parking ban and won’t risk having your vehicle towed off the street during a snow storm or during snow removal operations. Unless you leave it there anyway.

Winter parking bans will also be advertised on the home page of the city website; on the Parking Division’s Facebook page at facebook.com/concordnhparking, and on Concord TV Channel 17.

In addition, the city will provide notice of overnight winter parking bans to local media outlets, but cannot guarantee that the ban will be advertised (we try!) Winter parking bans last from midnight through 7 a.m. Those who park on the street in violation of a winter parking ban are subject to having their vehicles towed and impounded at their expense and will also receive a $100 ticket. But you won’t have to brush it off! For more information, contact the Parking Division at 225-8640.
