City Briefly

Each week, City Manager Tom Aspell cross-stitches a giant portrait of Franklin Pierce’s face. But when he tries to add a mustache in honor of Movember, it becomes unrecognizable. As  anything but a city memo, we mean!

Bukowski’s Tavern

Or at least her new job

Concord Parks & Recreation is pleased to announce the hiring of Becky Bukowski as its new part-time senior citizen program coordinator, Aspell writes. Which we presume means she coordinates on a part-time basis and not for people who are part-time seniors citizens.

Becky joined the department this month and will be working to increase offerings in the Senior Program (proposal: roller derby!) Becky recently retired after working for the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services for 29 years. Her most recent experience was overseeing chronic disease prevention programs for the Division of Public Health Services.

Becky is asking seniors to complete a brief survey to let her know what programs and activities they would like to see at the new Heights Community Center (repeat: roller derby!)  Programs being considered include fun social activities and lifestyle programs to increase knowledge and well-being.  Becky is planning to start new activities in January, in addition to the current activities being offered.

The loaming

Sounds like a horror flick

Sidewalk work continued last week in Penacook Village, which included the prepping, paving and loaming of several disturbed areas, Aspell writes.  Fairpoint continued lowering its duct bank (deposits there can be sticky), and street signs were installed along the southern portion of the project.  Work this week will take place Tuesday and Wednesday, due to Thanksgiving.  Activities will include more sidewalk work, as well as loaming of the disturbed areas.  One-way traffic will be maintained and delays can be expected.
