City briefly

Each week, City Manager Tom Aspell paints his Hot Wheels yellow and black and cruises through the neighborhood asking kids if they want to get on his school bus. We lined up all the restraining orders he got, and they spell out a city memo!

What, no my space?

Concord General Services is now on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Google+, Aspell writes. Unfortunately, the department is not on Tinder yet, as far as we know.

Check out the department’s social media pages and be sure to like, follow or subscribe to at least one of their channels in order to receive alerts from the city about street maintenance, arena events, trash holidays, recycling information, water conservation, contests, seasonal programs and much more. Hopefully your workplace gives you all the trash holidays off, as well.

Now through Oct. 3, any new or current user who follows Concord General Services on Twitter, likes its Facebook page, follows its Google+ page or subscribes to it on YouTube will receive a special thank you prize (while supplies last). Hint: it’s not a new car. Winners can claim their goody bag (filled with awesome prizes) at Concord General Services, 311 N. State St.  After all, who can resist free goodies? See official rules by going to concordnh.gov and clicking on the Goody Bag Giveaway headline.

Driving in circles

Roundabouts are for that

What a difference a week makes. The roundabout at Village Street and Washington Street in Penacook is really shaping up, Aspell writes. We assume it’s actually still round, though. The curbing for the roundabout and the splitter islands have been installed, along with the center landscape island, where we stood and read Shutter Island. Brochu Landscaping continues with its landscape/hardscape efforts and the sidewalks in the vicinity of the roundabout have been prepped for paving. This week will bring more sidewalk and landscape work through the roundabout and in the vicinity of Boudreau Square. One lane of traffic will continue to be maintained through the work zone.
