‘Casablanca’ to be shown at the Discover Center

One of the greatest and most romantic films of all time will be shown on the big screen again at the McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center in Concord this Valentine’s Day.

Called “Celebrate Valentine’s Day Under the Stars,” the Discovery Center will screen the classic film Casablanca in the planetarium theater.

This stellar evening includes hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar, live music, science demonstrations, a scavenger hunt, night sky viewing in the observatory (weather permitting), and a chance for couples to have a souvenir photo taken in front of the 12-foot moon mural.

Casablanca is a 1942 film with Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman. Set during World War II, the film focuses on a man torn between, in the words of one character, “love and virtue.” He must choose between his love for a woman and helping her resistance leader husband escape the Vichy city of Casablanca.

“It’s a unique way to celebrate Valentine’s Day, with the moon, the stars, music, Bogart and  Bergman,” said executive director Jeanne T. Gerulskis.

Cost is $55/couple, $27.50 singles, and a member-discounted rate.
