Concord’s Hale on display at UNH Manchester

“Wood Engraved Prints” by R.P. Hale of Concord is on exhibit in the UNH Manchester Library from Jan. 16 through May 22. This exhibit features wood engravings of historic buildings and landscapes around New England.

Hale is an illustrator and fifth generation calligrapher, wood engraver and printmaker based in Concord.

He inherited the press, fonts of handset type and most of his engraving tools. Hale uses a blue-black oil-based ink of 18th-century formulation for printing wood engravings, and the editions are printed on archive-grade acid-free Mohawk Superfine in either natural white or pale ivory.

The exhibits are free and open to the public during business hours. Visit manchester.unh.edu for directions and parking information, and call 641-4101 for building hours.
