City Briefly

Each week, City Manager Tom Aspell scribbles out the recipe for Aspell Ale and begins perfecting a batch, but samples too much of it and writes a garbled city memo instead. We cleaned it up here.

Got water?

You will soon, anyway

Early this week the contractor will finish connecting water services to the new main on Loudon Road, between Woodcrest Heights and Old Loudon Road, Aspell writes.  Water services include making things wet and making things not dry.

Later in the week, finish paving of the main line trench (two center lanes) will occur from East Side Drive to Old Loudon Road, which prefers to be addressed as Venerable Loudon Road. This work will take one day and will occur between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m.  Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction – but not up – between East Side Drive and Old Loudon Road.

May we suggest a few items?

Like more holes to shoot at

Last week, Beaver Meadow Golf Course finished adding and improving drainage on the 2nd, 14th, and 16th fairways, which will help with turf conditions and overall playability, Aspell writes. To further aid playability, we’ve suggested second holes be added to all greens.

Later this month, staff will begin working on expanding the driving range to allow more space for users of the range and an area for increased golf lessons. We’ve also suggested the addition of a dedicated smash-your-club-in-frustration zone.

Throw it down

Dunkface practice begins

In collaboration with the Concord Boys & Girls Club, the Frank Monahan Foundation and the Concord Parks & Recreation Department, new basketball backboards and poles have been installed at the new court at Kimball Park, Aspell writes. Thankfully, the backboards and poles were installed in the same location.

The new court is being built for the city as part of the approved renovations at the Concord Boys & Girls Club, which sits on city land. Although rarely, it stands and stretches.

Hoops to jump through

Or shoot a ball through

The Parks & Recreation Department is accepting registration for its upcoming winter basketball league, Aspell writes. Players with NBA experience are no longer eligible.

Teams are offered for boys and girls, 4 years of age up to high school.  Early bird registration deadline is Nov. 15. No word yet on latebird registration.

Hindsight is behind you

Visioning sounds official

The first public forum for the Penacook Village zoning study will be Nov. 23 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the United Church of Penacook, Aspell writes. The forum will focus on developing a vision for the village and will discuss the results of a visual preference study. Spoiler alert: Results proved people prefer visuals to no visuals.

The survey involves rating a series of images that will help to define what type of development is desirable in the village.  The image of a giant, accessible pile of money received the most votes. Please visit the project website at visionpenacook.com to learn more.
