Four New Hampshire photographers will display their work at Two Villages Art Society in an exhibit titled “Boundless: Expansive Views of Land and Imagination.” The show opens at the gallery in Contoocook on May 2, with an opening reception from 12-2 p.m.
The exhibitors are William Balsam (Warner), Tom McHugh (New London), Lindsay Holmes
(New London), and Jay Fitzpatrick (Andover).
“Photography is a language that weaves a tapestry of light, tones, and color. At its best,
photography reveals subtle differences in the warp and weft of the tapestry,” said Balsam. “The exhibit is not only visually striking, but may also reveal a hidden world just beneath the surface of what we perceive.”

Balsam is a retired geology professor who uses photography to document the relationship
between large-scale landscapes and the detailed texture of rocks and fossils. The sweeping
landscapes of the Southwest have been favorite subjects. He now focuses on lakes, woodlands, and the Maine coast.
Jay Fitzpatrick, a former newspaper photographer, is inspired by photographers including Ansel Adams and Joe McNally. His landscapes transcend mere subjects, offering a glimpse into realms beyond the senses, while his compositions and vibrant colors elevate each image to a work of art.
Lindsay Holmes is a professional photographer and owner of Great Island Photography LLC. Her work has appeared in publications including New Hampshire Home Magazine and Vineyard Living Magazine, and received an honorable mention from the Photographic Society of America.
Tom McHugh has been making photographs since 1968, as a professional and an amateur. His work has been displayed regionally in juried exhibits and appeared in Go Westerly Magazine, Block Island Magazine, and other publications.
The opening reception is free and open to the public, offering a chance to meet the photographers and enjoy live music by singer-songwriter Kat Ivey, as well as light refreshments. The exhibition ends on May 30.
The gallery is free and open to the public at 846 Main Street in Contoocook. Regular gallery hours during exhibits are 12-4 p.m. Thursday-Sunday. Up-to-date information about the schedule, artists, and events at the gallery: https://www.twovillagesart.org.
