If your garden needs a perennial boost after this frost-bitten winter, The Friends of The Audi have a plot for you:

On Saturday, May 9, from 9 a.m. to noon, don’t miss the 26th Annual Perennial Exchange, turning the first spade of Concord’s gardening season.

Here’s how the Perennial Exchange works:

Your garden has filled up with clumps of hosta, choked-up daylilies, or spindly daisies. You need variety. Be ruthless! Take a spade and dig up the shoots. Split the clumps into handfuls, wrap them up and water the packets. Bring them down to the Audi and swap with other gardeners for astilbe, violas, maybe iris or peonies. One little or hosta becomes a bunch in a year and a bouquet in five,  adding color and beauty to our streetscape. Plants and advice are given to new start-up gardeners.

Last year’s Perennial Exchange attracted crowds of swap-happy gardeners. All agreed the selection was great, the horticultural help was valuable, and the price — zero — was right!

The event also features advice from Master Gardeners, Morning Coffee, and the Great Gardening Raffle hosted by area green businesses.

Everyone is welcome at the community event.  It’s floral, festive, fun…and FREE!

The Friends of the Audi and the City’s General Services Department have sponsored the PXC since 2000. For more information  visittheaudi.org or call 603-244-4747.
