Lights, camera, action

In light of this weekend’s SNOB Film Festival, we at the Insider thought it would be great to generate some ideas for what our own entry in the festival would be. We wanted to give all of you a behind-the-scenes sneak peek at what we do in a given week. Because really, you’ve earned it.

Outside of the demand for both radio and television appearances and our constant attempt to avoid the paparazzi (which isn’t easy when our office is filled with them), our days are spent dealing with a lot of boring desk work. And let’s be honest, nobody is going to pay to watch that.

This is about the exciting assignments we have and the stories that come out of them. This is: Inside the Insiders.

Opening shot: The Monitor newsroom is abuzz with reporters and editors feverishly working to make their deadlines. Web Editor Kevin Deane is preparing his Movember moustache for the Monitor Minute and photographer Andrea Morales is fine tuning her sure-to-be prize winning front page photo of a monkey riding a giraffe down Main Street. The camera pans to the Insider cubicle. Tim is sitting at his desk, feet propped up, trying to fit in his afternoon nap. Keith, on the other hand, is trying to figure out whether he should play Danny Amendola or Wes Welker for this week’s fantasy football matchup. Just another mid-morning snapshot of what the Insiders do.

Highlight of the week: You might think that it would be one of the many touching stories we track down or pictures of adorable children dressed up in Halloween costumes, but not for this movie. The Insider highlight has to be $2 taco Tuesday at Dos Amigos. That is where the magic of the next Insider issue begins to take shape.

Actors to play us: Tim– That nerd from The Big Bang Theory. Keith– 90210 era Jason Priestley or Luke Perry.

Recent story: The scene shifts to Buzz Ink Tattoo & Barbershop. Tim is snapping photos and taking notes as the buzz of hair clippers and tattoo guns hum in the background. A football is tossed around by two barbers and a close up shot of pizza adds the subtle hint of hunger for the audience. Soon, owner Rick Broider asks Tim if he needs a new tattoo. Tim immediately puts his notebook and camera down and begins to roll up his sleeve.

Dramatic scene: This was never supposed to happen. Instead of spending a nice day on Main Street, Tim is about to have his appearance forever altered by ink. What will it say? What happens next is too juicy to give away here.

The ending: It’s 2 p.m. on a Monday and we have just put the finishing touches on that week’s paper. Another 40-pager in the books. To celebrate, Keith and Tim head to the parking lot to light off a few paper lanterns. The camera follows one of the lanterns as it slams into Tim’s car and sets off a series of events no one would believe. Or will they? You’ll have to watch this imaginary movie to find out.
