The trouble with Triffle

The Concord Police Department gave us access to some recently unearthed police logbooks, some dating back all the way to the turn of the century (the 1900s one, not the most recent one). We think it’s a fascinating glimpse into the way things used to be in Concord, so we’ve compiled some of the most interesting entries here. Take a gander, you rapscallions!

April 27, 1940: Missing from her home at 12 Pine St since 8 p.m. April 23, Mrs. Mincie Jemmery, 58 years old. Dark cloth coat, dark blue hat. Had Legion call sent out 35 men and boy scouts. Found her hiding in her own home.

July 23, 1940: Charlie George complains of a noisy party in a car parked on W. Canal St. last night. He wants is stopped if they are there tonight.

Aug. 7, 1940: Picked up John Edwards, age 22 yrs., of Worcester, Mass. Called Hdqts. to check on him as he was acting queer. After checking, Edwards turned out to be Everett Mays, 22 yrs., of the Wrentham State School for the Feeble Minded.

Nov. 14, 1940: Wanted for kidnapping a mail carrier, a fellow by the name of Gould, an ex convict He is supposed to be in the rear seat of a Chevy sedan and armed with a shotgun. A man and small boy are in front.

Nov. 19, 1940: Fr. Murphy complains of boys raising the devil around the school while the scouts are meeting.

Jan. 19, 1941: Florence Chandler reports that every Sunday, there is a boy or boys around the neighborhood with guns shooting at birds, trees or anything they see to shoot at.

Feb. 8, 1941: Ora Tetreault, 4 West Main St., called and said Triffle O’Clair, same address, threatened to shoot her and her mother and father with a .45 S&W revolver. Picked up Triff for drunk and disorderly conduct. Took his gun.
