City briefly

Each week, City Manager Tom Aspell slips on his Beats By Bouley headphones, puts on his favorite Jay-Z album (The Blueprint, of course) and freestyles a city memo. DJ Insider has got the exclusive mixtape! Give it a spin right here.

Painting The Town

Or at least the old school

Things are moving along at the former Dame School building, Aspell writes. And, update complete.

Painting is under way in four of the meeting rooms and two offices, but none of the panic rooms, information technology staff are working on hooking up telephones, computers and spy satellites and work continues on repairs to the bathrooms, including the addition of both hot and cold knobs on the sinks.

Stay tuned, as we anticipate the Parks and Recreation Department to move into the building within the next two weeks. They will place an ad for a roommate on Craig’s List shortly.

FOre more weeks of winter?

Think golfy thoughts

Despite the recent snow, the Beaver Meadow Golf Course is thinking spring, Aspell writes. Well, we’re thinking Kate Upton, but we don’t see her yet, either.

Memberships for 2013 can be purchased at the Parks and Recreation Office located at White Park or online at beavermeadowgolfcourse.com. (Reverse spoiler alert: the Parks and Rec office won’t be there for long!)

Fun things are happening

Looking for something to do on school vacation week besides sleep until noon? Come to the Concord Public Library for some vacation-week activities, Aspell writes.

The Children’s Room will host Butterflies: Habits and Habitats on Feb. 26 at 4 p.m. Learn all about butterflies with Jerry Schneider, inventor of the award-winning Butterfly Game, and make a butterfly T-shirt (note: the T-shirt is not intended to be a butterfly habitat). Bring your own white T-shirt or purchase one at the event for $4.

Also at the library will be a teen movie event, Feb. 27 at 5 p.m.

Katniss Everdeen voluntarily takes her younger sister’s place in a televised fight to the death in which two teenagers from each of the 12 districts of Panem are chosen by lottery to compete.

Start off with some Panem-themed treats before the movie starts, and stay for pizza after the credits roll. No word on whether those hungry kids will have to compete in some sort of games for the pizza. This event is for grades 6-12 only.

Also at the library during vacation week, in the Children’s Room, will be Family Story Time, Feb. 27 at 10:30 a.m.; Paws for Pages with Sparkle, Feb. 27 at 3:30 p.m.; and Crafternoon, Feb. 28 at 3:30 p.m. Not at the library during school vacation week will be school.
