The best of cutting up, raising cain and reporting a rumpus

The Concord Police Department gave us access to some of its recently unearthed log books earlier this year, and the Retro Police Log quickly became the craze that is sweeping the nation. Or at least Concord. So to put a hilarious bow on your year, we collected the best of the Retro Police Log from 2012, even if some of the events are more than 100 years old. Enjoy!

Sept. 15, 1906:  Frank Watterson, Edward O’Keefe, John Laney, Prosper Parineau and Frank Parineau for Larceny of Vegetables from FW Cheney Garden.

Sept. 7, 1927:  Mrs. E.W. Holden on the Contoocook River complains of a young man about 19 or 20 years of age coming into her camp and took $7 and some change. He asked her if she had any more so she picked up a rifle (which was empty) and he ran out the door. He was very tall, dark blue suit with belt on the back. Had a very prominent nose and needed shaving.

Oct. 29, 1930: A man by the name of Salner has disappeared from around the Blackwater. He ran a filling station. He is 5’6” or 7”, 180 lbs. Has on dark clothes. Is badly in need of a shave and is a little demented.

Oct. 29, 1930: Nettie Bowen of Centre St. complains of kids raising the devil and taking off her blinds. Investigated.

Dec. 28, 1932: A holdup in Keene, N.H. by a man that looks like an Italian, about 5’8” or 9” tall, 185. He had a brown overcoat and light tan hat.

May 27, 1935:  Dee Burbank of Elm St. 17 years old. Holding his bicycle for a day or two until he learns to ride it the way it should be rode and cut out the fancy stuff. Very nearly had two accidents tonight.

June 17, 1936:  Mrs. Keaton reports a man near corner of School and State St. by Parker School who appears to have lost his mind, and asks for Police to take care of him. Taxi took him home.

June 21, 1936:  Mrs. James Knight, 47 Mt. Rd. complains that her husband is on his way to the street, on a drunk, and is spending his bonus money at the rate of $20 a day, for liquor.

June 24, 1936:  Mrs. Anderson, 13 Fayette, complains of the barber on So. State St. hitting her children, he says he did, they shout at him and bother him when he is working on people.

July 14, 1936:  Report of men drunk and fighting in jungles.

Oct. 19, 1938:  Told Ed Tally about his dog. He got mad and said the dog will stay there and nobody will do anything about it. In other words, we can go to Hell.

Nov. 6, 1938: Escaped from Concord Police station: a boy, bushy hair, no hat, and ears like a jackass.

Dec. 11, 1938:  A man reported a rumpus of some sort in the rear of Thirty Pines. He said a woman ran like hell into the woods with two men after her. Went down but couldn’t find anything.

Jan. 5, 1940: Called to Thirty Pines to take out a drunk. When I got there, he was gone. Was over to Piekerman’s home, #3 Borough Road. He is Piekerman’s step-father. He had taken some cakes off the counter and beat it.

Oct. 16, 1941:  Doris Sargent, 28 yrs. old, says a woman staying at her house is pulling some funny business. Turned her over to state police. She lives in Canterbury and is a mental case.

March 14, 1943:  Runaway pig on Rolfe St. belonged to Jean Visneau. Corner Merrimack and Rolfe. “Some ham.”

April 21, 1943:  A lady called and said that there were five or six boys at Rolfe Park for the last two or three nights singing and cutting up. Saw the boys and told them they would have to get for home after dark.

May 28, 1945:  Children are raising cain around the Episcopal Church. They would like to have police please take notice.

June 25, 1945:  Complaint that Jackson’s dog at 112 Elm St. is very ugly. Notified headquarters.
