The mat is no place for competition

I am writing in regard to the Insider's annual Cappies wards. I wanted to point out the inherent irony of competing for the best yoga instructor and best yoga studio awards. This is an unfortunate expression from yoga teacher/studio owner to their students that competition is relevant and celebrated in yoga.

What is next, who can bend the farthest? Who can quiet their mind the most?

I recognize that Bikram holds competitions and is advocating for stretching in the Olympics, but to call it yoga is a misnomer.

Namaste.
