New exhibit

Don't miss this unconventional, cutting-edge exhibit focusing on the art of wood. “In the Grain” features sophisticated, highly-crafted works by many leading craftsmen and sculptors. Among this extraordinary collection of innovative, useful, decorative and thought-provoking objects are turned hats by JoHannes Michelson, carved birds by Wendy Lichensteiger and sculptures by Andy Moerlein, Donna Dodson, Stephan Fowkles and John Magnan. More than 40 craftsmen and sculptors are participating in this eclectic blockbuster exhibition.

The show will certainly entertain you and provide an eye-opening view of the endless possibilities of art created from one of nature's most beautiful and versatile materials. The range, depth and skill of the participating artists is impressive: from Sharon Dugan's finely woven baskets, George Saunderson's turned French rolling pins, Tom Dunne's burl bowls, and Dan Dustin's hand-carved spoons to a variety of skillfully executed abstract and conceptual pieces.

Most creators are from New England, but Jon Garcia's turned inlaid bowls are from Colorado and Suzanne Newbold's gourd forms are from Washington state. Several of the sculptors, including Jon Brooks and John Weidman, have international reputations.

The Mill Brook Gallery is open Tuesday-Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, visit themillbrookgallery.com or call 226-2046.
