City briefly

Each week. City Manager Tom Aspell straps on his pads, buckles his chinstrap, and heads out onto the gridiron. Seemingly unaffected by the defensive pressure, he calmly throws three touchdowns to Rob Gronkowski, setting several NFL records in the process. In his postgame interview, he reads us the city memo.

Sale set for this week

A timber sale is scheduled to start this week in the Jerry Hill area of the Penacook Lake watershed, westerly of Long Pond Road and southerly of District No. 5 Road, Aspell writes. The harvest includes approximately 28 acres of the 150 acres of forest land managed in that portion of the watershed. The contract was awarded to Chuck Rose, Inc., of Hopkinton, and the sale is expected to bring in approximately $21,000. The proceeds of the timber sale are placed in the Forestry Trust Fund, which is used for the management of city forest lands, as well as trail construction and maintenance. Some hazard trees will be removed at the corner of Long Pond Road and Lake View Drive, and the proposed parking area for the Marjory Swope Park will also be cleared, Aspell writes.

Recycling reminder

The General Services Department would like to remind residents that if recyclables are placed in plastic bags, they must be clear plastic bags. No other plastic bags are acceptable. The recycling collector needs to be able to see that the materials are indeed recyclable, otherwise they may be left behind, Aspell writes.
