Baskets for the needy

Inpiduals, friends and families are needed to volunteer with the sorting, packing and distribution of more than 70 tons of non-perishable food for the Capital Region Food Program's 2011 Holiday Food Basket Project.

Since 1974, the HFBP has provided food to families and inpiduals for a special holiday meal and an additional two to three weeks. In 2010, more than 2,530 families throughout the Concord and 17 surrounding communities were recipients of food baskets from the Capital Region Food Program.

“This project is truly a community-wide endeavor that works in collaboration and coordination with social service agencies, food pantries, soup kitchens, and school systems to ensure those in need are helped during the holiday season,” states Maria Manus Painchaud, chair of the project.

The organization needs volunteers beginning Dec. 16. Volunteers are also needed to distribute food baskets in Concord and Penacook on Dec. 23. The project is located at the Army National Guard Armory on Pembroke Road in Concord.

Deadline for volunteer sign-up is Nov. 30. Please register by emailing hfbp@capitalregionfoodprogram.org.
