City Briefly

Each week, City Manager Tom Aspell climbs to the roof of City Hall, puts on a harness, and escapes down his executive zipline to Friendly's. Good idea Tom! After a belly-busting hot fudge sundae, even a sewage overflow report would be palatable! We found this city memo spelled out in chocolate syrup on the sidewalk in front of City Hall.

We mean it

The City's seven public swimming pools are scheduled to close on Aug. 11 at 4:30 p.m., Aspell writes. We reckon Tom will be there with his whistle and arm floaties to make sure you all get out. The Parks and Recreation Department is in the process of asking for donations to help keep three of the pools open for an additional week. Anyone who is interested in making a donation should contact the Parks and Recreation Department at 225-8690.

That's a mega mind

The Parks and Recreation Department will present an outdoor movie at Rollins Park on Aug. 12. The movie “Megamind,” featuring Will Ferrell, will be shown on a giant, inflatable movie screen with Blu Ray projection. Family games begin at 7 p.m. and the movie will start at dusk. There is no cost to attend, Aspell writes, and all are welcome. Popcorn, drinks and glow sticks will be on sale. “Megamind” is 96 minutes in length and is rated PG.

Constructive info

Work continues on the redevelopment of the former Penacook Tannery site at 4 Crescent St. Installation of the 5,400 square foot foundation for Phase II of the medical office building is currently underway. The developer is actively seeking tenants for Phase II. Last week, Aspell writes, the City completed final pavement of Crescent Street. In early September, the City will complete the project with installation of street trees and gateway signage for the project.

That's all for Tom this week. Check out the Insider next week to see if Tom's sweet tooth will permit him to write us another city memo, or if he eats up all the “ink.” Special thanks to reader Matt St. Onge for submitting a guest introduction for this week!
