Step into a space of transformation: “Crossing Thresholds,” a new exhibit at the Two Villages Art Society in Hopkinton, September 12 through October 10, invites viewers to literally cross into an immersive display of work by seasoned artists John Hoglund, Sher Kamman and Ann Saunderson, who have collaborated for over five years. An opening reception with refreshments will be held Saturday, September 12 from 12-2 p.m.
Photographers Kamman and Hoglund join painter Saunderson to create a space alive with possibility, where perception shifts and imagination takes root, where thresholds are not barriers but invitations to unfamiliar ways of seeing.
“We see this exhibit as hopeful,” Hoglund says. “You might not see what’s coming but it may be something new and better.”
Through her photography, Kamman hopes to expose the hidden beauty and inspire viewers to better care for themselves and the planet. She wants the exhibit to be fun and believes it is elusive enough to draw viewers into the experience.
The natural world is a common theme connecting the three artists. Hoglund’s photos beckon viewers to see past the foreground into the space beyond, whether it’s a path through the woods or golden rays of sunshine breaking through ominous clouds.
In Saunderson’s vibrant, textural paintings, she strives to capture the magic created as light touches landscape and ordinary objects, and hopes that wonder and awe will follow. She says these artists “know each other well,” and are excited to fashion a cohesive exhibit with opportunities for viewers to interact with the works, with a goal to elicit delighted responses.
“Crossing Thresholds” will be at the Two Villages Art Society from September 12-October 10. The opening reception is Saturday, Sept. 12 from noon-2 p.m. Regular gallery hours are 12-4 p.m. Thurs-Sun.
