Who needs fireworks when you can be stimulated by the wise words of City Manager Tom Aspell? That’s right, folks, we spent our weekend reading Tom’s weekly memo. Jealous?
If you didn’t get a chance to read it, here are the highlights:
While driving along North State Street on Monday you may have noticed a Fourth of July miracle . . . no construction was being done! We hope you enjoyed a day off from sitting in traffic, because construction is now back to normal between Knight and Lake streets.
We’re sorry. We always hate being the bearer of bad news.
We’re talking trash
Nah, not the kind you were hoping for, but you still may be interested.
During this week, trash and recycling collection will be delayed by one day, Tom wrote. Friday and Saturday’s routes will be picked up on Saturday.
Grow up, already!
“What Do You Want to Do When You Grow Up?” will be presented at the Concord Public Library on July 7 in the auditorium from 1 to 3 p.m.
Author Glenn Currie, a freelance writer and business consultant, will discuss retirement and what today’s possibilities are.
“Mr. Currie will share his journey from life in the work world to his life in retirement,” the memo stated. “Poet, essayist, photographer, softball coach, collector and community volunteer are several roles shaping his life.”
After listening to Currie’s story, partake in a discussion on changed expectations and possibilities with today’s retirement.
This free event is co-sponsored by the library and the Learning Institute at New England College. All are welcome to attend.
So, what do you want to be when you grow up?
We’d like to be something magical like a ballerina or city manager.

Take the little ones to these library activities:
Family Storytime is held in front of the fireplace in the children’s room every Wednesday at 10 a.m.
After School Lego Club will be held on July 8 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the auditorium. Kids in grades K-8 are invited.
“Something’s Fishy,” a summer reading program event, will be held on July 9 at 2:30 p.m. in the children’s room. Kids will make a take-home aquarium.
