Hidden jewels in Concord

Each month, we quiz young people who attend the Concord Young Professionals Network meetings, an organization affiliated with the Greater Concord Chamber of Commerce. The group is a chance for folks in their 20s and 30s to connect with people their age. There’s more of you out there than you think!

This year, CYPN is turning 3. To celebrate, a black and white themed anniversary cocktail party will be held at the Grappone Conference Center on Friday, Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. WJYY’s Nazzy will host the event. The cost to attend is $10, $20 after Nov. 2 and at the door. Admission includes appetizers, music, dancing and a cash bar.
The next networking meeting will be held on Oct. 21 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Orr & Reno, 1 Eagle Square. Appetizers and a cash bar will be provided by Alan’s of Boscawen. Admission is free, but preregistration is required.

For more information on the group and to sign up for the monthly networking meeting, visit concordypn.org or call 224-2508.

At September’s networking meeting, attendees were asked, “What do you consider a hidden or undiscovered jewel in Concord?” Here are some of the responses:

Sarah Cherry, 34, Concord
The retirees who have been meeting at the Modern Pharmacy in McKee Square for coffee. They have been meeting there since the opening of the pharmacy in about 1962 when there used to be a soda fountain, which is now long gone, but the few that are still around still meet for coffee – kinda cool, huh?

Larisa Dannis, 22, Concord
Red River Theatres and all the fantastic independent films they show.

Claire Flannery, 32, Concord
Carter Hill Road.

Alicia Rainville, 29, Loudon
The Pierce Manse.

Gary Livingstone, 38, Concord
Chinese at Concord High School. To elaborate, they provide courses for children and adults. Also, the Barley House Restaurant.

Alexander Cohn, 33, Concord
Cross-country skiing at Beaver Meadow golf course. Working close to the golf (as Insider staffers well know) makes it easy to get a ski in for lunch. Even if that is only three months a year. (Ed. – Alex is the photo editor for the Monitor, in case you didn’t know that already.)

Alison Wanta, 31, Concord
Madeleine’s on Main Street – truly the best place for French pastries.

Michael Bussiere, 27, Concord
The sunset from Carter Hill Road at dusk heading towards the orchard down to River Road.

Samantha Mahoney, 23
The park by Franklin Pierce Law.

Greg Legier, 39, Warner
Red River Theatres.

Angela King, 28, Concord
The old Phenix Theatre downtown. It could be a great performance venue with a bar and restaurant.

Joel Guimond, 36, Bow
The CYPN, lol. Rossview Farm.

Anthony Hans, 34, Penacook
Capitol Center for the Arts. They bring in great shows and talent to the Concord area.

Jon Hanley, 25
Bread and Chocolate.

Sarah Crete, 27, Concord
Granite State Candy.

Danielle Adams, 24, Concord
Dos Amigos.

Jon Fogg, 32, Concord
My wife, Jessica.

Jane Susman, 28, Concord
Red River Theatres.

Paul Deshaines, 52, Concord
Kayaking on the local rivers is getting more popular. In the past this area was not considered a place to kayak.

Tabitha Shore, 27, Concord
Audubon Society hiking paths.

Jon Morton, 38, Concord
Canoe and kayak rentals on the Contoocook River by Riverhill Market.
