Save money to win

People who do their banking in Franklin or Concord have the opportunity to build savings and win a savings bond during the week of Sept. 19-26. That's when the “Franklin-Concord Savings Challenge” will be held, sponsored by the Franklin and Concord Asset Building Coalitions. Anyone making a deposit to a new or existing savings account at participating financial institutions during that time will be eligible.

Loose change is one of the suggested sources for entering the challenge. According to the Consumer Federation of America, the average household has about $90 in coins that would be available for deposit. For every deposit made, savers are entered for a drawing for one of six $100 savings bonds. A grand prize drawing, for a $1,000 savings bond, will take place at the “It's Your Money Show” at Franklin Middle School on Sept. 29. The mayors of Concord and Franklin are expected to be on hand for the drawing.

Financial institutions taking part in the challenge are Franklin Savings Bank, Merrimack County Savings Bank, Northway Bank (in Franklin, Tilton, Belmont, Laconia and Pittsfield), Laconia Savings Bank (Concord branches), Members First Credit Union and First Colebrook Bank.
