Up for a challenge?

As part of a nationwide effort to get consumers to eat more locally grown food, the Concord Cooperative Market invites residents to take the Eat Local, America! Challenge. The benefits of eating local food range from supporting local farmers and the economy to helping to protect open space, reducing the amount of fossil fuel needed to transport food and improving health and nutrition. Best of all, local food tastes great!

There are many ways to take the challenge. Inpiduals who already consider themselves “localvores” are encouraged to make four out of five meals with local foods (or roughly 80 percent of their diets). Beginners may choose five meals a week. Participants can also set their own goals. After all, it's all about eating, exploring and enjoying local food – and having fun as you do it. To learn more and register for the challenge, go to eatlocalamerica.coop.

Within New Hampshire, food and farm advocates are teaming up to offer a wide range of events and opportunities to discover where food comes from, meet the farmers who raise it and learn how to cook and preserve it. To find out about events and where to find local food near you, visit nheatlocal.org.
