You're already thinking of winter

The Division of Forests and Lands has initiated a pilot program offering cut-your-own firewood on several state reservations as an affordable source of heat during the winter months. The program will allow New Hampshire residents to harvest firewood for their private use through the purchase of a permit. The public can get up to a maximum of two cords of wood during the cutting season.

People interested in the program must have their own chainsaw, basic safety equipment and a vehicle in which to haul the wood away.

All permits available through the program are for dead and down wood only. The permit, issued by the Division of Forests and Lands, costs $25 per cord. To obtain a permit contact the Division of Forests and Lands, 172 Pembroke Road, PO Box 1856, Concord, New Hampshire 03302-1856 or call 271-2214. Permits are limited in number and will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.
