Always an Adventure offers outdoor adventures for active adults. There’s a $35 yearly membership fee for all activities.
– Outing club: Two levels. Meets Wednesdays at 8:50 a.m. year-round in the parking lot behind Borders, 76 Fort Eddy Road. $4 activity fee plus carpool fee. Activities may include hiking, walking, kayaking and biking.
– Biking club: Two levels. Group A, advanced level, starts May 5. Group B, beginning level, starts May 12. Meets Tuesdays at 9:15 a.m. in the parking lot behind Borders. $4 activity fee plus carpool free.
– Yoga class: Classes are held on Monday and Thursday, 10:30 a.m. at 48 Airport Road. Cost per month is $4 for each class, which covers eight or nine classes.
– Kayaking: Starts June 12. Meets Fridays through October at 9:15 a.m. in the parking lot behind Borders. $4 activity fee plus carpool and kayak transportation fees.
Extended adventures are also offered. Preregistration required:
– June 5-7: Three days at the YMCA camp on Lake Coniston in Grantham. Activities include hiking, swimming, kayaking and crafts. The cost is $235, which includes all the meals.
– June 23-26: A Downeast Maine adventure with home base at Bucksport, Maine, where we will explore the area for three days, including a boat trip to Isle Au Haut. The cost is $385/double, which includes three nights’ lodging, breakfasts and boat trip.
– July 21-23: This trip to Errol will include three days of kayaking. The cost is $310, which includes everything.
– August 7-9: “Living with Passion” is held at Mt. View Lodge in Rumney. Join Virginia Joslyn for a weekend of enthusiasm and expression of the passionate beings we are. The cost is $235, which includes two nights’ lodging and home-cooked meals.

On May 9 at 2 p.m., the center presents “Angels in Austria.” All her adult life in America, Trudy, a Jewish refugee from Austria, blamed herself for failing to rescue her father from the Nazis. Just as she began to share her father’s letters that she had tucked away for years, she received an unusual invitation from a church in Austria asking her to return to her hometown for a week of friendship, seeking forgiveness for its country’s crimes of the Holocaust. Judy Faust will be at the center to tell her story. Free. Call to reserve your seat.
On May 18 at 2 p.m. the center presents, “Sisters by Heart.” Join Mary Lou Fuller and Kay Amsden as they offer their new program that takes audiences on a journey filled with 30 years of fun, laugher and friendship. Now in their 80s, these two speakers describe the chance meeting of two 50-year-old women from perse backgrounds that led to a communion of caring and respect. Free. Call to reserve a seat.

The Concord Recreation Senior Program welcomes everyone 50 or older. Summer hours are 9 a.m. to noon on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

On Fridays we offer card games and line dancing. $4 charge for line dancing.
The collaboration between Concord Recreation Department and Concord Area Transit continues. Transportation to and from the senior program is provided at various locations. The cost for this service is $2 roundtrip. To take part in this new transportation, seniors will need to complete a form. This form can be picked up at the senior program or at the recreation department. Call for schedule and details.
The Concord Recreation Department is holding senior open house week May 11 through May 15. All events are free unless otherwise noted. The schedule is:
– May 11: The Centennial Senior Center open house is held at Horseshoe Pond Place, 26 Commercial St., from 9 to 11 a.m. Join us for coffee and to learn more about CSC’s new vision.
New Hampshire Mediation Program, 2 Industrial Park Drive, is holding an open house from 1 to 3 p.m. Learn about how you react when confronted by difficult people or issues. Take a survey to identify your conflict style and join a discussion. Call 224-8043 for more information.
– May 12: The Concord Public Library, 45 Green St., will host an open house from 9 a.m. to noon. A formal tour of the library starts at 10 a.m.

Classes include: “Water Walking in the Pool” at 8:30 a.m. and “Balls, Bands and Weights” at 9 a.m. Cardio, nautilus and weights are available 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and lap swim is available 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Senior membership rates per month are $40 per person, or $75 for couples. Senior membership hours are weekdays, 5 a.m. to 4 p.m., and weekends are unlimited.
On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays the following senior classes are offered:
– “Cardio Circuit” at 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. Class includes warm-up, with a varying circuit workout.
– “Agile up and Be Strong” at 8:30 a.m. This class will warm you up and then challenge your muscles to improve your daily mobility.
– “Easy Does it, Water Aerobics” at 10 a.m. Experience the benefits of exercising in the water during this 45-minute class.
– “Deep Water Hydro Fitness” at 11:05 a.m. Using floatation devices, you will do a variety of moves such as jumping jacks, cross-country skiing, lunges, water jogging and sprinting for a great overall aerobic workout. For all fitness levels.
“Zumba Gold” is held on Thursdays at 8 a.m. This 45-minute class is a series of fitness programs specifically designed to take the exciting Latin and International dance and fitness program created in the original Zumba program and bring them to the beginner, active older adult.
“Indoor Walking and Strength” is held on Tuesdays and Thursdays and 11 a.m. This class and its workouts target endurance, calorie-burning and is for all levels.

Granite Ledges’ annual spring craft fair is held May 16 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be more than 20 vendors with a variety of crafts and products for sale. Grilled hot dogs and refreshments will be sold.

All programs are free for YMCA members or $50 per class for program members (unless otherwise noted.)
– Water walking is an intense deep water workout with no impact to muscles or joints. You’ll build strength and endurance. Classes are Tuesday and Thursday from 8:30-9:15 a.m.
– “Waterworks” consists of a steady aerobic segment followed by deep water exercise for endurance and muscle toning through water resistance. Classes are Tuesday and Thursday from 7:30-8:15 p.m. and Saturday, 8:30 – 9:15 a.m. and are free for members; $50 for program members.
– Senior strength training is designed specifically for older adults with a primary goal of slowing the aging process. Classes are Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9-10 a.m.
– “Silver sneakers” is a new program designed for seniors just beginning to exercise or seniors at an intermediate level. Join us on Monday and Wednesday, 10-11 a.m.
– “Beginning Yogafit” is for those who are active and want to try yoga, but never have. Yoga fitness is part of the hatha yoga and vinyasa style. Tuesday and Thursday, 8-9 a.m. This class is free for members; $82 for program members.

“Susan B. Anthony – the Invincible!” will come to life circulating petitions, getting arrested and challenging legislators when she appears at the library on May 12 at 7 p.m. in the auditorium.
Performer Sally Matson will use Susan B. Anthony’s own words from her speeches, letters and diary to tell her story with wit and emotion. This program is free and sponsored by the Concord Public Library Foundation and the New Hampshire Humanities Council.

Beginning May 18 the center will be starting a 6-week Agile-Up program. This is a fitness program for seniors designed to improve muscle strength, balance and flexibility. The class is instructed by Janet Kelley-Vail, a certified trainer. Classes are Mondays and Fridays at 8:30 a.m. $30.
