Driving tour, anyone?

We asked our new best friend, Eric Anderson, if he would give us his top destinations for a driving tour of Bow. You know, in case you find yourself with a couple of hours to kill.
Eric is one of the selectman in Bow (he’s currently on his 21st year!!) and a NH state representative (13 years). He serves on the House Finance Committee, representing the residents of Bow and Dunbarton. He also just finished up a five-year stint on the Baker Free Library Board of Trustees. On top of that, he’s known for his local photography (he’s responsible for the photos to your right). His work was recently exhibited that the library, and you can find his photos in the town reports and on the town website. Could we have found a more qualified Bow tour guide?

The birthplace of Mary Baker Eddy
Mary Baker Eddy was the founder of the Christian Science Church. She was born July 16, 1821, in Bow. You’ll find the birthplace on Route 3A heading toward Hooksett. It will be on your right.
The Bow Bog Meeting House
The meeting house was built in 1835 with a Paul Revere Bell donated by Mary Baker Eddy. It’s located on Bow Bog Road (take Bow Center Road – Bow Bog Road will be a left).

Old Town Hall
The town hall was built in 1847. The interior was renovated by members of the both the Bow Rotary Club and members of the Bow Men’s Club with community contributions. It’s located at 91 Bow Center Road, just before the Branch Londonderry Turnpike East.

Bow Center School
The school was built in 1894. Displays on site include a renovated 1800s snow roller, a grist mill grinding wheel and a stone watering trough. The school is located on Bow Center Road, just before the Branch Londonderry Turnpike East.

Town Pound
The pound was built in 1821. The Bow Baptist Church is located within 500 feet of the Town Pound – the church was built in 1832. The area containing the Bow Baptist Church, the Old Town Hall and the Bow Center School is referred to as Bow Center. Take a left on Branch Londonderry Turnpike East from Bow Center Road. The pound will be uphill on the right.

Bandstand
The Bow Rotary Club and the Bow Men’s Club raised the money and built the bandstand for summer concerts and community use and Bow Rotary Park. The Bow Rotary Club raised the money for a landscape architect and landscaping materials to produce a beautification project for the community.
The bandstand is located near the community center and fire station on Bow Logging Hill Road.

Nottingcook Forest
This is a 761-acre parcel of land to visit, to hike, take photos, see great vistas, appreciate the great outdoors, etc. The town purchased this property in the mid-1990s for about $1.8 million to preserve this valuable piece of property for the community to use for generations to come. There are two entrances.
First entrance: Take Bow Bog Road to Allen Road.
Second entrance: Take Bow Center Road to Woodhill Road to South Bow Road.

Special thanks to the Baker Free Library staff for helping us identify the locations of these Bow landmarks!
