Road race in memory of beloved teacher

The Concord community lost a great teacher and friend this year when Sue Ann Martin tragically died unexpectedly. Sue Ann touched many people in this community, from her Broken Ground students and their families, her coworkers, her neighbors and church friends to her friends in the running community.

Education was Sue Ann's love, and Broken Ground School was where she shared this love with her students and fellow teachers. We want to continue her love and support of education and of Concord's youth. The Sue Ann Martin Fun Run will support a scholarship fund in her name that will help with a Concord student's college costs.

The 5K road race will be held Sunday, Oct. 10 at noon at Broken Ground School. Registration starts at 10 a.m.

Annual day of caring dubbed big success

Granite United Way of the Merrimack County Region would like to extend a huge thank you to the Day of Caring planning committee for once again working so hard to make sure our 19th annual Day of Caring was a great success.

This year, more than 400 employees from local companies were assigned to complete community service projects at 44 area non-profit agencies.

Volunteers came out to lend an extra set of hands to help with projects such as visiting with the elderly, planting flower beds, working with the children at a local day care and clearing walking trails.

One volunteer even suggested that the day of caring should happen more than once a year.
