Suspect: Take me in – or else
Michael Lafond, 41, of Concord was arrested on Jan. 17 on a charge of simple assault.
According to Officer Joseph Russell's report, Lafond told police dispatch that he and his wife had punched each other after an argument, and that he needed to be put into protective custody or "something else will happen."
When Russell and Officer Melissa Pfefferle arrived at the West Street residence at 1:44 a.m., Russell spoke with Lafond outside while Pfefferle spoke to Lafond's wife inside.
Lafond, who Russell reported appeared intoxicated, did not want to talk about the argument and became agitated. Russell placed him in restraints and escorted him to the patrol car. Meanwhile, Lafond's wife told Pfefferle that the argument started when Lafond said he had feelings for another woman. Lafond's wife said she reacted by hitting him in the face. She said that Lafond had not hit her.
The wife had red marks around her neck and a scratch on her upper chest, according to the police report. When Russell asked her how she got those marks, she explained that she has two dogs and they jumped on her.
Back at the patrol car, Russell explained to Lafond that his wife told the officers he did not hit her. Lafond corroborated this. When Russell added that he knew what the argument was about, the police report says Lafond became angry and changed his story again, saying he kicked his wife and that if he was released he would seek "retribution on her." He began shouting that the reason he was angry was because the Arizona Cardinals lost and that's what set him off.
Lafond was charged with domestic-related simple assault. Lafond refused bail and was transported taken to the Merrimack County House of Corrections. He was due in court on Jan. 19.
Alleged thief caught with fireballs, tuna
Matthew Cullen, 24, of Concord was arrested on Jan. 27 on a charge of theft by unauthorized taking or transfer.
According to Officer Timothy King's report, an employee of the Hess Station on North Main Street called dispatch to report a theft in progress. The employee gave a general description of the suspect whom police say they identified as Cullen. While King was on his way to the store, dispatch said that Cullen had left in a Plymouth Voyager van and gave King the license plate number. Dispatch also noted that the suspect appeared intoxicated and had urinated on himself in front of the store
At this point, King was able to locate Cullen at a Myrtle Street residence. King wrote that he spoke with Cullen's girlfriend first, who said that she owned the van and had driven Cullen to the Hess Station. She told King that Cullen came out with his pockets "full of stuff," but she thought he had paid for the items. King found a tuna sandwich, a bag of fireball candies and a Danish on a nightstand. King wrote that the girlfriend said those items came from Cullen's pockets.
King arrested Cullen after Cullen began raising his voice, saying that King had no right to be there.
Cullen was arrested for theft and taken to the police department. Cash bail was set for $500 and Cullen was taken to the Merrimack County correctional facility. He was due in court on Jan. 28.
