Party in the park

National Night Out rolls out each year across the nation with a goal of promoting cooperation between the local police and the community. Concord's free event will be on Aug. 2 from 5 to 9 p.m. at Rollins Park, rain or shine.

National Night Out attendees will enjoy a variety of music and food items that cost just $1, with free popcorn available.

In addition to a wealth of informational displays, there will be an inflatable slide and lots of fun activities for kids sponsored by Concord Parks & Recreation. Also on the schedule are bike safety and karate demonstrations, outdoor big-screen game playing, and entertainment from Best Buy.

The Concord Police Department and Freedom Cycle are teaming up to offer “The Safety 500” mini driving course, and a vehicle restraint system demonstration will be presented. The Concord Public Safety Foundation will have an impaired driving simulator available to try. Police demonstrations will abound, including explosives unit, SWAT, and K-9. There will also be a DWI command vehicle onsite to tour.

Throughout the evening, the second annual Badge Ball Tournament will offer lively entertainment, as teams from public safety, local businesses and organizations go head-to-head on the dodge ball court.

To alleviate parking challenges, plan to take advantage of the free shuttle bus service. Schedule and details will be available soon at concordnh.gov/police.
