Since you’ve been such good little girls and boys this year, we bring you the highlights of City Manager Tom Aspell’s weekly memo. Merry memo-ing!
New police officers
On Dec. 10, two brand spankin’ new police officers were sworn in as members of the Concord Police Department.
Here’s the scoop on the two newbies:
According to the memo, Officer Andrea Wright grew up in Boscawen and attended Merrimack Valley High School. She graduated from Castleton State College in Vermont and has a master’s degree from Lynn University in Florida.
Wright lived in Florida and Tennessee before returning to the Granite State.
Wright most recently worked as a legal assistant at the city prosecutor’s office. She will attend the next police academy session in January, the memo said.
Officer Bryan Croft is a certified police officer in New Hampshire and recently worked as an officer at the Franklin Police Department, the memo stated.
Croft grew up in Penacook and attended Bishop Brady High School. He is a graduate of Plymouth State University and was selected as the outstanding recruit in his police academy class, the memo continued.
We suspect that Croft’s first words were “you are under arrest” – he was born into this business. The new officer is the son of former Boscawen police chief Dave Croft.
Celebrate Recycle Eve
Good news! You’ll have time to rid of all your empty Natural Ice cans before your in-laws come over on Christmas Eve.
According to Tom, trash and recycling collection will occur as normally scheduled on Dec. 24. However, the transfer station will be taking time off for the holidays and will be closed on Dec. 25.
Broad Cove closed
Beware of Broad Cove Drive this week. There’s a dreaded road closure.
The road will be closed near #35 from Dec. 28 at 7 a.m. until Dec. 29 at 5 p.m.
“Residents with addresses from #1 through #30 will be able to access their driveways from Carter Hill Road,” Tom wrote. “Residents with addresses from #35 through #176 will be able to access their driveways from West Parish Road.”
Enjoy the scenic route, Broad Cove Drive dwellers.
School vacation activities and hours at the library
You’ll have to stay home and snuggle up with your own books (or, you know, spend time with your family) on Dec. 24 and 25 because the Concord Public Library will be closed.
The library will re-open on Dec. 27 and kick-off a week of activities in the children’s room. Hey, you gotta keep those buggers busy somehow during school vacation week.
The following activities will be offered at 2:30 p.m. each day:
– Dec. 27, card making
– Dec. 28, game day
– Dec. 29, time capsule
– Dec. 30, treasure hunt
So enjoy, little ones. Think of us while you’re making your cards. Not that we expect a formal “thank you” for printing this schedule. We’re just saying it would be nice.
