City Briefly

City Manager Tom Aspell usually sends out a newsletter each week full of updates and little tidbits about what’s going on in the city. And this past week was no exception, so here are some of the highlights.

Hey, that’s our cover story

Bridge work continues

This past week, concrete was placed for the footing at the south bridge abutment and the steel decking was dismantled on the north truss of the existing bridge. In addition, miscellaneous drainage work and construction of the temporary work platform adjacent to the existing truss spans continued.

Next week, it is anticipated that the contractor will begin to set forms for the south bridge abutment stem and wings, continue to dismantle sections of the existing north truss and make more progress on the temporary work trestle, Aspell writes.

Stay warm out there, guys.

Route 3 improvements

Phase 6 nearly complete

The contractor has completed the majority of the work for the 2015 season on Phase 6 of the Route 3 Corridor project. This past week brought the loaming and hydro-seeding to completion, as well as the base paving of the sidewalks and driveways. The signalization of the Manor/Borough Road intersection, along with a new hawk beacon at the Manor Fire Station, was also installed.

Next week, the remainder of the punch list items will be completed and the contractor will be done for the season. When they return in the spring, finishing touches will include top paving of the roadway, sidewalks and driveways; and installation of the street trees, Aspell writes.

We’re glad the signalization situation is all squared away.

It’s getting cold, so…
