Alicia Rossman likes to fish, eat at Dos Amigos and teach yoga

We assume just not all at the same time

The Greater Concord Chamber of Commerce’s Concord Young Professionals Network (CYPN) introduces you to another “Young Professional of the Month,” Alicia Rossman, RDN, LD, Yoga Therapist

How old are you? 28

Where do you live? Concord

Where do you currently work? Owner of Let’s Get Movin’! Yoga and Nutrition, Concord Hospital Center for Health Promotion and office of Diabetes and Nutrition Concord, News Radio Host: A Healthier Life, Healthy Futures Project – Kids Yoga and Nutrition DVD fundraising campaign.

Where did you go to school? I studied nutritional sciences at the University of New Hampshire. After my undergraduate, I worked full time and attended Integrative Yoga Therapy School to become a yoga teacher. Shortly after I completed my dietetic internship at Cedar Crest College in Allentown, Pa., and had an amazing experience! I went from a large school to a very small, all women’s college. I even had the experience of taking an etiquette class! After becoming a registered dietitian. I went back to school at the YogaLife Institute N.H. to become a yoga therapist and am currently studying to become a certified diabetes educator. I guess you could say I’m a lifelong learner!

What do you like to do for fun? If it’s in nature, count me in! I love to do all kinds of fishing. My dad and I are in a fly fishing club. I’m also on the Hurricane Kayak Fishing team and love to fish from a kayak. I enjoy skiing, snow shoeing, golfing and biking. I always make sure I have time to do fun things for myself. It usually involves some form of exercise since I’m not a gym person.

Favorite places to be? Vermont, Cape Cod, Newport, Rhode Island and spending time with my family.

Last book you’ve read? Portions of Begin with Yes by a local author, Paul Boynton. He’s a personal friend and a huge inspiration!

How did you find out about CYPN and how has it benefitted your business or you personally? My boss Johane Telgener told me about CYPN. Going to CYPN is an amazing way to network professionally and personally. I recently moved from Portsmouth to be closer to work and it has been a nice way to meet people my age.

What organizations are you involved with? I serve on the Share Our Strength Seacoast Board (volunteer chair and social media). This organization means so much to me! I have been involved for the last 11 years and recently was able to travel to Washington, D.C., for their conference of leaders. I was able to advocate on “The Hill” for the summer meals programs in N.H. and Maine. I also serve on the board for the New Hampshire Dietetic Association as social media chair.

Greatest role model? I have always had more than one! I usually find a role model for different activities to keep myself well rounded. Usually teachers, friends or people who really make a difference in the community – the movers and the shakers. My parents, grandparents, Kira Willey (famous children’s musician), and co-workers Donna Patch and Shawna Bedard are the first who come to mind.

What’s your favorite restaurant in Concord? Dos Amigos and Live Juice! They have healthy choices, “deals” and the employees are so nice.

What’s your favorite place to go in Concord? I love walking downtown and the river behind NHTI.

Favorite movie of all time? Here Comes the Boom. It is such an inspirational movie.

What is one of your life goals? To produce The Healthy Futures Project Yoga and Nutrition DVD. My goal is to raise money through a fundraising website called IndieGoGo to get the project to happen. I filmed the last week of August. It would mean a lot to me if you would check the page out: igg.me/at/HealthyFuturesProjectLetsGetMovin/.

If you could visit any country, where would you go? I’d love to go to Italy and visit Cinque Terre. I have heard it is amazing.

Where is the best place you’ve visited? Outerbanks in North Carolina. We stayed right on the water; we didn’t need to go anywhere but the beach. We rented a house and just enjoyed each other’s company. I also got to fish every morning. Relaxing – that’s my kind of vacation!

Tell us a few interesting facts about yourself! I wrote a children’s book called Miss Lyla’s Banana Pancakes to the Rescue; I started my own lawn mowing business when I was in high school; I’m on the Hurricane Kayak Fishing Team; I had three jobs in college to pay for half of my education: I drove a bus on campus, worked at a golf course and was a title holder in The Miss N.H. Scholarship Program. I was lucky that my parents paid for the other half of my education.
