No matter how snuggled up you were during the big snowstorm last week, it should be clear from this photo you weren’t nearly as warm and snuggly as Instagram user @courtneymurabito. This is her and her feline friend enjoying the first snow day in 75 years at New Hampshire Federal Credit Union, which kept her from having to drive to Concord for work. The comfortable overload in this photo is making us want to take a nap! (or maybe it was the pizza we just ate).

Here’s a photo of the 1951 St. John’s High School JV basketball team sent to us by reader Jack Fraser, from an era when haircut diversity was apparently not really a thing. Other stuff we dig in this photo: No. 5’s sort of shmedium jersey and the sweet striped shirt No. 8 is rocking under his uniform. The photo may be old, but the means to idenfity everyone were decidedly modern – Fraser, who was the coach of the team, thanked those who are on the “I’m from Concord” Facebook page for helping to identify everybody. Recreating a painting is not as easy as it looks. Just ask Keith about his attempt to mimic the Green Martini and you’ll see. But despite our constant poking at Keith’s abilities (or lack thereof) seven members of the NHTI library staff decided to do the same. And they even put all seven on display for all library patrons to see. Here you see the handy work of Steve Ambra, but to see the rest you’ll just have to go to the library.

This is obviously a scene from another, much more sepia era in Concord history, but there’s some pretty cool stuff here at the corner of Pleasant and Main Street. For instance, note the granite crosswalk on a dirt road, the horse watering trough in the middle of the “intersection,” and the handy downtown casket and coffin store, just in case you happened to need to hit that up after leaving J. S. Green’s boots and shoes place (though we can imagine it was pretty tough to fit one of those suckers in a buggy). Not seen: the two frozen yogurt shops that opened up within months of each other right around the corner. Thanks to reader Earl Burroughs for sending in the photo. We know it’s only a couple weeks in to November, but we figured by this time at least something would be worthy of a spot on the Monitor’s Photos of the Month cubicle divider, but apparently that’s not the case. The cute letter from a young Bow reader telling Monitor columnist Ray Duckler to, in not so many words, ditch his beard and change his picture is the only thing that keeps the divider from feeling lonely when all the lights go out at the end of the night. But not all is lost because in the spirit of this issue, The Guide to Gifts and Giving, we plan on giving the divider the gift of several copies of this photo thumbtacked all over the vacant real estate. Or we might just fix the sign at the top and call it a day. It really could go either way.
