About the film:

This French film is directed by Henri-Georges Clouzot, often referred to as the “French Master of Suspense.” He is known for his thrillers like “The Wages of Fear” (1953) and “Diabolique” (1955). A superb earlier (and lesser known) example of his highly influential talent is “Quai des Orfèvres” (1947), a police procedural exploring the troubles of post-war France with telling character portraits. When a wealthy, lecherous old man is murdered, there is no shortage of suspects.

The investigation is led by a seasoned police inspector (the great French actor Louis Jouvet) and centers on the jealous husband (Bernard Blier) of a beautiful dance hall performer (Suzy Delair). The noirish B&W cinematography is stunning! In French with English subtitles.
