Want to gain some gardening knowledge?

While you might be just starting to think about getting your garden ready for the season, the Bow Garden Club is well ahead of you.

The garden club season begins this month and runs through November, with the club hosting a variety of presenters and events for its current members, potential new members and guests.

It all gets going on Monday with a program titled, Plant Propagation 101, with Amy Papineau of UNH Cooperative Extension/Merrimack County. The program will be held at the Old Town Hall, 91 Bow Center Road, starting at 6:30 p.m. Social time and refreshments start at 6 p.m. Attendees are welcome to bring plants that need to be divided and re-started.

And that’s just the first month. Here’s a look at what’s going on the rest of the year.

May 9: Creating Pollinator Habitats, 6:30 p.m. Sean Smith and Sam Jennings of the Urban Beekeeping Laboratory will discuss what homeowners need to plant to attract pollinators. They will be bringing an observation bee hive with live bees and raw honey for tasting.

June 13: What’s New in Perennials, 6:30 p.m. Nancy Towle from the Black Forest Nursery in Boscawen will talk about what’s new in perennials and will show some of the new varieties.

July: No meeting, but members will enjoy their annual Progressive Dinner on the July 11.

Sept. 12: Eco-Friendly Gardening, 6:30 p.m. UNH Cooperative Extension Master Gardener Ruth Axelrod will be back by popular demand. Her topic will be ecologically-sound gardening practices.

Oct. 3: Wings of the Night. Hilary Chapman from The N.H. Audubon Society will present a program on owls and bats.

Nov. 14: Bears in the Backyard. Mary Goodwill of Wildlife New Hampshire will give a program on how to live with bears that frequent your property.

All Bow Garden Club meetings are held on Monday evenings, from 6:30 p.m. to approximately 8:30 p.m. – and don’t forget social time and refreshments beginning at 6 p.m. – at the Old Town Hall, 91 Bow Center Road. Guests and prospective members are always welcome.
