Pirates, line dancing, discussions and a whole bunch of movies

How can you go wrong with that?

Tuesday

So if you didn’t know, there’s a pretty bad heroin epidemic sweeping the nation right now. What do you know about it?

Well, you can find out and ask questions of panelists including the Laconia deputy fire chief, a Laconia police officer, the Director of Phoenix House and a recovering heroin addict at NHTI’s “The Many Faces of Heroin” from 12:30 to 2 p.m. in the Sweeney Hall Auditorium.

The public is invited to attend and admission is free. Can’t beat free.

Looking for something a little more uplifting than a discussion about drugs? Luckily, Concord Public Library has you taken care of.

Bring the kids down to the library from 2 to 3 p.m. for Pirate Day. Both kids and adults are encouraged to show up in full pirate garb, which always makes for a good time. There will be various pirate crafts and activities for your swashbuckling enjoyment.

For more info, call 225-8670 or go to concordpubliclibrary.net.

Wednesday

Attention, seniors: It’s time to get your groove on.

The Heights Community Center is hosting line dancing at 10:30 a.m. What better way to start off the day?

This is for people 50 and older – sorry, kids. You’ll get there some day.

It’s $5 for walk-in admission or $25 for six weeks. The choice is yours.

For more info, call 230-4982 or email rbukowski@concordnh.gov.

If you’re in the mood to catch a flick, check out what’s going on at the library.

It’s Movie Day, meaning it’s a day where they show a movie. They don’t tell us what it is – that would ruin the surprise – but it’s rated PG. Oh yeah, and it’s free, so there’s that.

The movie starts at 2 p.m.

Thursday

Are you feeling puzzled yet? Would you like to?

Well, the library is hosting Puzzle Day from 1 to 4 p.m. You can stop by any time between those hours and try some jigsaw puzzles.

The event is free; just bring your brain – and your patience.

Guess what? The library has something going on. We know, crazy.

This time it’s Teen Movie: The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part I.

That’s a long title, but apparently the movie is all the rage. It’s rated PG-13, so it’s not really for the little, little kids.

It all starts at 2 p.m., and food and drinks will be provided. In other words, you’ll probably see both of us there chowing down.

Friday

If you’re a teen whose family has been touched by cancer, you should look into the UROK (You Rock)! program at the Payson Center for Cancer Care at Concord Hospital.

It’s an expressive arts group for teens ages 13 to 18 who have a parent or family member with cancer.

It runs from 3:15 to 5:15 p.m., but you have to register first.

Call 230-6031 to find out more about it.

If you like music and lobster – and who doesn’t? – you’ll definitely want to check out Wise Guy playing at Makris Lobster and Steak House.

Wise Guy is “a blues rock band central to the Concord area,” according to the band’s online bio. “Gritty dirty blues with a lot of heavier riffs and an indigenous/ Hendrix driven male vocal style combined with the harder edged high impact Heart style female vocal combo.”

Sounds pretty intense.

The show gets going at 8:30 p.m., and there’s no cover charge.

Saturday

What do you know about Faberge eggs?

Maybe you’ve seen these on Pawn Stars, or maybe your great-grandmother used to always have one on her mantel.

Either way, you can learn all about them at Grace Episcopal Church. Marina Forbes will lead a public discussion on the life and work of Russian master jeweler and artist Peter Carl Faberge at 11 a.m.

Refreshments will be served, and the talk is free to attend. Sounds like a win-win.

For more info, call 224-2252 or email office@graceeastconcord.com.

Sunday

Hockey fans, listen up: The Bruins are coming to town.

The Boston Bruins Alumni team will face off against the Stephen Cmar ROTC Crusaders at Everett Arena. It’s to benefit the Stephen Cmar Scholarship Fund.

Tickets can be bought online or at Capital Sporting Goods and TSR Hockey in Concord. Bruins Alumni include Bruce Crowder, Don Avery, Rick Smith and Ken Linseman.

The cost is $15, and it starts at 2:30 p.m. Go to cmarfund.com for more info.

Monday

This is your long-awaited extra day. That’s right, Leap Year is this year, and you should totally take advantage of this bonus day.

Maybe you’ll wash the car, vacuum the house or paint the kitchen. Or you could just loaf around all day. It’s your day!
