Well, there’s wheelchair basketball, films and plenty of talks

And you can even buy some crafts!

Tuesday

NHTI’s Wings of Knowledge series continues with UNH Professor Harvard Sitkoff, who will be presenting “The Martin Luther King Few Remember or Know.”

Sitkoff kinda knows what he’s talking about since he did after all write a biography titled, King: Pilgrimage to the Mountaintop.

The presentation will be held in the Sweeney Hall Auditorium (S-122) at 6 p.m., and is free and open to the public. Refreshments will follow his lecture.

Wednesday

If you’re like a lot of people, you’re reading really picks up during the winter months. Really, what else is there to do?

And if you’re looking to share some of those recently finished titles with someone, why not do it with a bunch of someones?

Books and Brew, which has been described as a low pressure book club with no assigned books put on by the Concord Public Library, is being held at True Brew Barista starting at 6 p.m. Discuss what you’ve been reading from 6 to 7 p.m. and follow that up with a little mingling from 7 to 8 p.m. You can even grab a beer.

Go to any high school, middle school or college in the area and odds are you’ll find a basketball game just about any day of the week.

But it’s not every day you can watch a bunch of people who are used to running around the court, like Jon, trying to coordinate pushing a wheelchair, along with dribbling and shooting. The 14th annual NHTI Wheelchair Basketball Benefit will be held at 4 p.m. as a fundraiser for the Zech DeVits Memorial Equipment Fund, which helps purchase assistive equipment for NHTI students with disabilities. Admission is by donation.

Thursday

As you probably know, the Concord Public Library always has cool stuff going on – like the AMC-NH partner series.

At 6 p.m., Ron Janowitz, hike leader for AMC-NH, will discuss his experience volunteering for the National Park Service at Natural Bridges National Monument in Utah. Janowitz will share photos of Natural Bridges, as well as other nearby national parks, ruins and rock art.

He will also discuss how to become a volunteer, along with what the duties and living arrangements entail.

Getting bogged down with all the political jibber jabber leading into next week’s primary? Looking for a little humor in an otherwise very serious and cut-throat bid for the White House?

Well, it’s time to check out the latest candidate on the platform – Jimmy Tingle. Well, Tingle isn’t actually running for president, but his hilarious, thought-provoking and politically charged one-man show based on his 2016 run for the presidency will have you believing he is – and in stitches.

Tingle will take over the Barley House at 7:30 p.m. and again on Saturday at 4 p.m. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased ahead of time at jimmytingle.com.

Concord Community Music School Jazz Department faculty member Matt Langley will give a lecture titled “Everybody’s Favorite Sideman: Artful Collaboration,” as part of the Bach’s Lunch programs at 12:10 p.m.

Kent Allyn and Mark Shilansky are two multi-talented musicians whose collaborative skills are sought out by singers of many genres. Drawing on input from these two artists who frequently take the music school stage, Langley will talk about the relationship between the singer, the lyrics and the accompanist.

Bach’s Lunch programs are free and open to the public.

Operation Free, a nationwide coalition of veterans advocating for clean energy, will host a public screening of the documentary The Burden at Red River Theaters.

The Burden tells the story of how our dependence on fossil fuels is the greatest longterm national security threat confronting the U.S. – and how the military is leading our transition away from oil. A discussion with the filmmaker, a veteran and national security expert will follow the film.

There will be a reception from 6 to 7 p.m., followed by the film and discussion, from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

RSVP’s are required and can be made by going to redrivertheatres.org and clicking on The Burden event page.

Friday

If you’re in search of something a little different to boost your movie knowledge, look no further than the NHTI Film Society.

The society will be showing D.O.A. (1950), at 7 p.m. in Sweeney Auditorium (S-122). It’s billed as a film noir classic.

Admission is by $5 donation, but free for NHTI students with a valid NHTI ID.

Saturday

Merrimack Valley High School is hosting what is being called a Winter Blowout Craft and Vendor Fair, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. We can only imagine there’s gonna be lots of stuff to buy and eat, but you’ll have to go to find out.

Monday

Have you ever thought about getting involved with ham radio? What about being part of an organization that lends a helping hand when disaster strikes?
