City Briefly

Last week, City Manager Tom Aspell spent some extra hours in the office hanging Christmas lights and other holiday decor for all passers-by to see. And to show just how festive he is this year, Aspell used his extra lights to spell out this week’s city memo, which we’ve transcribed to a more readable format.

Java with an officer

The Concord Police Department will host “Coffee with a Cop” on Friday from 9 to 11 a.m. at True Brew Barista, located at 3 Bicentennial Square. This event provides a unique opportunity for Concord police officers and community members to come together in an informal, neutral space to discuss community issues and build relationships in a relaxed, one-on-one interaction over coffee. Members of the community are invited to attend to ask questions, bring concerns, or simply get to know our officers, Aspell writes.

And no, this is not the time or place to discuss that parking ticket you got last week.

Pruning in Penacook

The Grounds Division of the Parks & Recreation Department has been taking advantage of the great weather provided by Mother Nature to catch up on needed pruning of trees at Rolfe Park in Penacook. After consulting with Concord General Services Tree Supervisor Ryan Rambeau, identified trees are being trimmed and raised to better expose the turf to more sunlight and better air circulation. This will aid in the establishment of new seedlings and improve playing surfaces.

Ready to rock (salt)

Although it hasn’t snowed yet, Concord General Services has been ready for winter operations for quite some time. Operations for winter maintenance occur well before and beyond the winter season. The Highway and Utilities Division has had 2,500 tons of salt mix prepared and ready to use since the end of October.

More salt will be prepared throughout the season as needed. In addition, Primex provided safety training for snow plow operators in late October, before crews began fall leaf collection. Another training session occurred last week for snow plow operators from other city divisions and departments that help plow during the winter season.
